PASTOR chris harrison
Pastor Chris joined our staff on July 1st 2021 after having served eight years as a pastor at Kingwood United Methodist Church. He isn’t brand new to the area since his ministry journey began as a student pastor in Murchison back in 1997 while he attended Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas.
Chris comes to Athens with his wife of 32 years, Laura, and their six children who still live at home. They also have three older children who are out on their own and two grandchildren. Chris and Laura met as they studied chemistry at Florida State University and worked in the environmental chemistry field. They love their children and grandchildren tremendously and devote much of their time to raising their family. Chris grew up in Junction, Texas so small town living is not unfamiliar. Besides Murchison and Kingwood, he has also served churches in Bay City and League City. Chris has a deep love for missions and serving and seeing the Church be the Church that God has created us to be. Growing closer to God through Christ and loving one another and the community around us through the Holy Spirit bring Chris great joy! |

Hello Athens church and community,
Thank you so much for such a wonderful welcome to Athens. It was great to come to town in the middle of cooking camp and then have such an amazing time of worship together on the 4th. I love how we worshiped God, celebrated our veterans, felt gratitude for the love that God has poured out on our families, community and country and then took the time to recommit ourselves back to Him. It was great to meet so many of you. I can’t wait to know you better and connect to even more as we grow closer to God and one another. I love serving and being with people, so don’t hesitate to stop by the church and say hello or drop me an email at [email protected] so we can visit. I have already had the privilege of spending a little time with the church staff and I look forward to the ministries that God will invite us to do with you for the growth of His Kingdom! I am excited to make connections with the various groups that exist here at the church, but also to connect to the community groups which come to our activity center for their meetings. I believe the church still has a vital role in the community and it will be exciting to see how this unfolds. I appreciate your prayers as we move into this time together and I am giving thanks to God for the opportunity to serve you and the many needs of this church and community. Striving to be a bright light in the world! Chris |
